What is Advanced Certificate?

An Advanced Certificate is a higher education qualification type positioned at NQF Level 6 and designed to build on prior learning and develop specialised knowledge and skills. In practice, the term is useful when interpreting qualification records and planning education or training. It should be understood in the context of the specific qualification, institution or regulatory framework involved.

For example, a learner researching a Advanced Certificate should look beyond the title and consider the qualification's NQF level, credits, purpose, learning outcomes, admission requirements and registration information where available. The exact details depend on the specific registered qualification.

This term helps learners understand how a qualification is structured, classified or used within the South African education and training system.
